FORCE CONTINUUM follows three generations of black police officers as they navigate the violent waters between the force and their community. It examines the very heart of police violence: the fears that sustain it, the prejudices that escalate it, and how deeply its repercussions are felt.

JULY 2016

BluesforMisterCharlie

BLUES FOR MISTER CHARLIE by James Baldwin

Written in 1964 on the heels of the assassination of Medgar Evers, dedicated to the memory of the children killed in Birmingham, and loosely based on the murder of Emmett Till, Blues for Mister Charlie tells the story of a young black man who is killed by a white store owner in a racially segregated and volatile town. Of the play, James Baldwin wrote, “We are walking in terrible darkness here, and this is one man’s attempt to bear witness to the reality and the power of light.” Over thirty artists from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival join Baldwin in telling a story that is as hauntingly relevant today as when it was written over fifty years ago.
